The United States Conference of Mayors is the official non-partisan organization of cities with populations of 30,000 or more, approximately 1,400 cities. Each city is represented in the Conference by its chief elected official, the mayor. The organization serves the following functions: Help develop and promote effective national urban/suburban policy; build stronger and more effective federal-city relationships; monitor the effectiveness of federal policy in terms of its service to urban needs; help mayors develop leadership and management tools; and to create a forum in which mayors can share ideas and information.
