United States Preventive Services Task Force

part of Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality

The United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) was established in 1984 as an independent, volunteer panel of national experts in prevention and evidence-based medicine. The Task Force's primary mission is to improve the health of people nationwide by making evidence-based recommendations on clinical preventive services such as screenings, counseling, and preventive medications. The USPSTF reviews and assesses the best available evidence to make recommendations that help primary care clinicians and patients decide on the best preventive services for individual needs. The recommendations focus on preventive services offered in primary care settings and are based on the balance of benefits and harms of each service. The Task Force operates across the United States, collaborating with various healthcare professionals and organizations to enhance preventive care and public health.
