Nitrogen

Nitrogen is the chemical element with the symbol N and atomic number 7. It was first discovered and isolated by Scottish physician Daniel Rutherford in 1772. Although Carl Wilhelm Scheele and Henry Cavendish had independently done so at about the same time, Rutherford is generally accorded the credit because his work was published first. The name nitrogène was suggested by French chemist Jean-Antoine-Claude Chaptal in 1790 when it was found that nitrogen was present in nitric acid and nitrates. Antoine Lavoisier suggested instead the name azote, from the Greek ἀζωτικός "no life", as it is an asphyxiant gas; this name …

(NH3) is an inorganic compound composed of nitrogen and hydrogen, that occurs naturally and is also produced by human activities. It is an important source of nitrogen, which is needed by plants and animals carrier. However, potential losses and inefficiencies along the value chain could result in reactive nitrogen emissions, which negatively impact air quality, the environment, human health, and climate. This environmental benefits of using ammonia as a shipping fuel and its potential impacts on the global nitrogen cycle.

deeper waters during the summer months. The nitrogen/phosphorus ratio in the water under these conditions (Friligos, 1981, 1982). The addition of more nitrogen to the water system would therefore promote further addition of phosphates would have no effect. Nitrogen nutrients are limiting in this situation. Sediments balance to determine whether reductions in net nitrogen or net phosphate input would be more effective Since fertilizers are the principal source of the nitrogen nutrients, reductions in their environmental
