BETTER DATA TO UNDERSTAND THE NEEDS OF CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE FROM THE GYPSY, TRAVELLER AND ROMA COMMUNITIES Gypsy, Traveller and Roma people are some of the groups that are most affected by severe data gaps, lack of robust quantitative evidence and lack of visibility and recognition within official statistics and reports, public service delivery and policy. [...] EDUCATIONAL JOURNEYS OF CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE FROM THE GYPSY, TRAVELLER AND ROMA COMMUNITIES The analysis uses Wave 1 GUiE to identify the records of Gypsy, Traveller and Roma young people within three academic year cohorts (children and young people who turned 15 during academic years 2008/9, 2009/10 and 2010/11). [...] UNDERSTANDING THE SUPPORT NEEDS OF GYPSY, TRAVELLER AND ROMA YOUNG PEOPLE To provide a better understanding of the support needs of young people from the communities, we first examine the prevalence of multidimensional child advantage amongst young people from the communities at ages 14 5 and 15 using information on individual and household circumstances from the 2011 Census. [...] LIMITATIONS AND CAVEATS While the Wave 1 GUiE dataset represents an important break-through in supporting the identification and analysis of the records of children and young people from the Gypsy, Traveller and Roma communities at scale, the research also highlight several caveats and limitations. [...] These factors restrict the extent to which the dataset is representative of the underlying population of Gypsy, Traveller and Roma children and young people and the generalisations and inferences that should be drawn from our statistical findings.
