[...] The ASEAN-India “Joint Statement on Cooperation on the ‘ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific’ for Peace, Stability and Prosperity in the Region”, is based on the common elements between the ‘ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP)’ and India’s ‘Indo-Pacific Initiative (IPOI)’. [...] Since the institution of this relationship, the inflow of development aid and FDI from Japan helped rebuild the economies of the region in the aftermath of the Asian Financial Crisis of 1997.
