Call for Applications UNEP Special Programme Project Photo Awards Deadline: 15 March 2024 We are excited to the launch of the opening of applications for the Special Programme Project Photo Awards: An exclusive photography competition for our partners that are currently implementing a project funded by the UNEP Special Programme. This competition is an opportunity to highlight the importance of institutional strengthening for the sound management of chemicals and waste by using creativity in your photographs while also showcasing the progress in your respective Special Programme country projects. We invite participants of all skills levels to capture and share the impactful stories of your project’s progress and success and use this opportunity to gain global recognition for your project and its contribution to a sustainable future. Join us in celebrating the success of your projects through the lens of your camera! Applications Partners that are currently implementing a project funded by the UNEP Special Programme are invited to submit up to ten electronic photos in high-quality related to the project they are implementing. Applications will be accepted from 15 January 2024 to 15 March 2024 (deadline for submissions) through this link. The competition rules are set out further on the next tab. Photos should be submitted filling the online form and uploading the files with the relevant information. Assessment of applications and announcement of award winners Applications submitted by 15 March 2024 the latest will be judged by the Special Programme Executive Board. The winners will be selected in April 2024, during the Ninth meeting of the Executive Board of the Special Programme in Geneva, Switzerland. The Special Programme Project Photo Awards will reward outstanding single images across two (2) categories: Global winner and Regional Winners. All entries will be considered in both the regional and global categories. Entries will be assessed against the following criteria: Relevance to the Special Programme and to the sound management of chemicals and waste, with images showing the impact on human health and the environment of sound management of chemicals and waste or the extent of the problem that is being addressed through the Special Programme project; and Quality of the photo, taking into account good composition, creativity and clarity. Applications must briefly describe each individual photo and its relevance to the Special Programme in two sentences and no more than one paragraph. The Executive Board will select: One global winner and One winner per region (Africa, Asia-Pacific, Central and Eastern Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean). Winners will be announced after the conclusion of the Executive Board meeting. Prizes Winners will receive a framed printed copy of their photo and an official certificate from the Special Programme Secretariat. Winners’ photos will be part of a 2025 Special Programme calendar to be gifted, and downloadable from the Special Programme’s website. Winners will receive a printed copy of the 2025 calendar. Winners will have their photos showcased through the Special Programme website and newsletter.
