RESEARCH STUDY ON CLIMATE CHANGE VULNERABILITY INDEX FOR PUNJAB

27 Jan 2024

This research transcends the realm of academic inquiry, emphasizing the urgency of comprehending and mitigating the extensive consequences of climate change, with a particular focus on vulnerable communities, and a nuanced consideration of the vulnerabilities faced by women and children. [...] Pakistan lies in a temperate zone, and its climate is as varied as the country's topography— generally dry and hot near the coast and along the lowland plains of the Indus River and becoming progressively cooler in the northern uplands and Himalayas. [...] Moreover, climate change raises the frequency and intensity of heat waves, and rates of death and serious illnesses will rise, particularly in children, the elderly, the bedridden, and the poor. [...] The method involves desk review of policies and key documents/commitments, compilation and analysis of secondary data related to climate change and health, and determining the vulnerability of geographical areas to climate change and their adaptation capacities. [...] Moreover, the opinions and suggestions of various Government Departments and environment specialists regarding the impact of climate change on children and women of the Punjab province were also recorded to make it a part of the study.
