However, the emergence of the Stans’ - Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan as well as neighboring Pakistan and Afghanistan - multi-vector-policies is not their method of survival but a strategy of positioning. [...] The growing geopolitical significance of Central Asia offers a window of opportunity for the EU to deepen ties with this strategically important region. [...] The SCO, covering 25% of the world’s total area and 30% of the global GDP, is growing constantly, as are investments in the Belt and Road initiative. [...] As the EU slowly grasps the region’s strategic importance, there is a need for fast diplomatic and economic engagement to foster stability and address security risks. [...] Transparent business deals and technical cooperation will offer both stability to the region and decarbonization to the EU.
