[...] This study aims to identify the roles assumed by the European Union (EU) in the energy policy applied in the Eastern neighbourhood by analysing the strategic documents regarding the relations with Georgia and the comparison with the approaches towards Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova. [...] The final conclusions emphasise particularities of 7 Europeanisation in the compared countries and underline the need for the European Union to assume the role of an agent of democratization at the geopolitical level to avoid the prolongation of the ideological collision both with the authoritarianism outside it and new slippages from the principles of operation of democracy established in the Tre. [...] Later, following the EU-Ukraine joint investment conference on the modernization of the gas transit system in March 2009, in June of the same year, the Commission and the international financial institutions reached an agreement on the assistance for the reform of the Ukrainian gas system. [...] Returning to the hypotheses, the case of Georgia confirms the finding regarding the case of Ukraine, according to which the role of the external energy actor of the European Union is multifaceted.
