Establishment and exercise of criminal jurisdiction in a future Convention on Crimes Against Humanity

12 Mar 2024

The UN General Assembly Sixth Committee Second Resumed Session on the Draft Articles on Prevention and Punishment of Crimes against Humanity is scheduled to take place 1-5 and 11 April 2024. Ahead of this session Amnesty International shares a briefing in which the organization submits that there is no prescribed hierarchy between jurisdictional bases when it comes to national prosecutions of crimes against humanity and that a state that has custody over a suspected perpetrator has the primary duty to investigate and potentially prosecute their individual criminal responsibility.
