This compares with 4.1 per cent in the September quarter 2023, 3.0 per cent in the December quarter 2022 and the historic low of 2.2 per cent in the December quarter 2020.1 For the December quarter 2023, the AAWI of 4.3 per cent is based on 1,020 agreements, covering 136,300 employees, with quantifiable wage increases. [...] The AAWI for agreements approved in the December quarter 2023 was 4.3 per cent, compared with 4.1 per cent in the September quarter 2023 and 3.0 per cent in the December quarter 2022. [...] The AAWI for private sector enterprise agreements approved in the December quarter 2023 was 3.8 per cent, compared with 4.0 per cent in the September quarter 2023 and 3.5 per cent in the December quarter 2022. [...] The AAWI for public sector enterprise agreements approved in the December quarter 2023 was 5.2 per cent, compared with 4.4 per cent in the September quarter 2023 and 2.3 per cent in the December quarter 2022. [...] The effective duration of a wage agreement is the difference in years between: certification, commencement or the date of the first wage increase (whichever is earliest); and the expiry date or the date of the last wage increase (whichever is latest) or termination date (where applicable and only if prior to the later of either the expiry date or the date of the last wage increase).
