This document synthesises the findings of our initial review of existing and emerging evidence on the modern slavery risks faced by people who lack the necessary documentation to access the full spectrum of rights and entitlements, globally and in the focus countries. [...] © Montecruz Foto 10 11 SECTION 4: UNDERSTANDING THE PATHS TO A LACK OF DOCUMENTATION One of the primary aims of this research is to better understand the pathways to a lack of documentation; in other words, the processes that lead to individuals being or becoming undocumented. [...] The lack of official documentation undermines access to the labour market and the potential contribution of refugees to the local economy. [...] To enhance the effectiveness of these efforts, it is essential to strike a balance and refine programs to adequately cover both the prevention of slavery and the protection of its survivors.
