State Department to reach out to our partners in the African Union (AU) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) to launch the Vision for Adapted Crops and Soils (VACS), with an initial focus on the African continent. [...] The crops modeled included legumes, cereals, roots and tubers, nuts and oilseeds, and fruits and vegetables, as well as trees used for food, and ensured distribution of crops that are important throughout the five regions of Africa for their consump- tion, breeding potential, and contribution to improving soil quality.
