Today, my statement will focus on the impact that the conflict in Colombia had on LGBTQ people, the opportunities offered by the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda to address these impacts, and finally, what remains to be done in Colombia to ensure an inclusive peace. [...] Urge full implementation of the Comprehensive Programme of Safeguards for Women Leaders and Human Rights Defenders and integration of a robust gender perspective in the work of the National Protection Unit. [...] 3) Call on the UN Verification Mission to prioritize support for the implementation of those provisions of the peace agreement that are outstanding, notably gender provisions and the Ethnic Chapters, as well as the centralization of victims in judicial processes. [...] 4) Urge the government of Colombia to include the prohibition of conflict-related sexual violence and violence against women and LGBTQ people in all future ceasefire agreements and in negotiations with armed groups.
