[...] One of the reasons I am very happy to be able to celebrate with you today is that when we look back at history, the Law Council of Australia may not even exist if not for the LSSA. [...] As I mentioned, we turned 90 years old last year and our esteemed peer, Dr Gordon Hughes released the second edition of his history of the Law Council: ‘The People, the Profession and the Institutions’. [...] A letter from the Law Society of South Australia (LSSA) to the Law Institute of New South Wales, dated 22 November 1932 stated: ‘Recent Commonwealth legislation contained in the Financial Emergency Act whereby provisions of the Invalid and Old Age Pensions Act are amended, have directed the attention of my Council to the urgent desirability of establishing an Affiliated Council of all bodies inter.
