Brazil: Submission to the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women: 88th Session, 13 - 31 May 2024

Amnesty International submits the following information to the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women ahead of the 88th session and the review of Brazil’s 8-9th combined periodic report under the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (the Convention). This submission raises concerns regarding gender-based violence against Black women and other women of African descent, the impact of the “war on drugs” on black women’s lives and motherhood, and their sexual and reproductive rights. It should not be considered an exhaustive account of the organizations’ concerns.
