Green EU trade marks :2023 update

25 Apr 2024

In September 2021, the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) presented the report on Green EU trade marks, analysis of goods and services specifications, 1996-2020. The report defines green EU trade marks (EUTMs) as those applications that contain at least one ‘green’ term in their goods and services descriptions. Green terms are expressions in the goods and services description that are related to the protection of the environment and to sustainable development. The list of green terms is shown in Appendix 2. It contains approximately 900 terms classified in 35 categories which are further organised into nine groups. In February 2023, the EUIPO presented an update of green EUTM trends with data until December 2021, and this new update includes data for 2022 as well as some improvements in the methodology.
