The development objective of the Ho Chi Minh City Green Transport Development Project for Vietnam is to ensure reliable and fast passenger transport thereby improving the traffic capacity and reducing the time needed for traveling from the east to the west in Ho Chi Minh city and vice versa. Some of the negative impacts and mitigation measures include: (1) notify the dismantling plan and coordinate with residents to carry out dust protection for households who live close to the works; (2) solid waste from dismantlement and clearance will be collected in a certain area, located within the construction site while waiting for transportation; (3) ensure to provide adequate funding for relocation of electricity, lighting, water supply pipes, telephone cables for impacts on underground technical infrastructure; (4) use modern and new construction machinery and equipment which generate a low noise level and strickly carry out equipment maintenance as regulated by the government; through the combination of machinery with low noise generation; (5) all equipment shall be kept in good working order and serviced regularly. Leaking equipment shall be removed immediately from site and repaired for wastewater and stormwater runoff; (6) provide dustbins and mobile toilets for workers on the site, due to the characteristics of the construction project at different locations including sub-locations and two main construction sites; (7) a conflict management and prevention plan should be developed to resolve conflicts about environmental and social issues, and bring about positive changes. This plan will be supported through participation of communities and stakeholders throughout the project; (8) place sign boards near construction sites to direct the traffic to slow down; and (9) in dangerous high voltage places, it is necessary to use interlock, signal light, danger sign, and fences to prevent unintentional contact.
