Fully cognizant of the fact that the potential of the country can only be fully reached if the country is reunified, all efforts are exerted to support the efforts of the UNSG for the resumption of negotiations for a comprehensive settlement of the Cyprus problem, in a bi-zonal bi-communal federation, fully in line with ______________________________________________________________________________. [...] In the case of Cyprus, one needs to add the weight of history, the consociational nature of its polity and of course geography: a strategic spot on the map that wouldn’t allow it to find its place under the sun without interference from powerful neighbours, the currents and the waves that agitate the Mediterranean and the Middle East, constantly imposing the handling of delicate situations that dw. [...] The hegemonic ambitions of countries like Turkey and the rise of a new configuration of power in the aftermath of the Arab spring are a testament to that, as are the conflicts in Iraq, Syria, Libya, Yemen, Nagorno-Karabakh, the Horn of Africa and the Sahel and the very acute confrontations in the eastern Mediterranean and in other parts of the world around natural resources and delimitation of mar. [...] -As a matter of urgency and priority, the government should launch a formal recourse to the UNSC on the issue of Varosha and seek a resolution calling for the immediate transfer of the area to the administration of the UN and for the withdrawal of all Turkish military presence therefrom, to pave the way for the return of the legitimate inhabitants of Varosha to their homes and properties. [...] The aim of all efforts is to achieve a federal solution to the Cyprus problem that will benefit all Cypriots, in the interests of stability and peace in the region, for the benefit of the European Union and the international community as a whole.
