This report focuses on Europe’s urgent need to accelerate innovation and productivity growth to maintain global competitiveness. Facing pressures from external competition, particularly from China, and the challenge of decarbonisation, Europe needs a strategic shift to restore its manufacturing potential and develop new technologies. The EU lags behind the US in the tech sector and risks being left behind in critical sectors such as clean technology and artificial intelligence. The report outlines a three-part agenda to reignite sustainable growth: closing the innovation gap, executing a joint plan for decarbonisation and competitiveness, and increasing security and reducing dependencies. The EU must overcome its static industrial structure and fragmented regulations to stay competitive on the global stage. Failure to act could jeopardize Europe’s social model and future growth.
