This research study to learn more about health inequalities and their link to wider determinants of health consisted of two phases: • The first phase focused on recruiting and training a co-creation group of seven residents of Southwark and Lambeth in co-designing the priority areas in relation to learn more about health inequalities. [...] As quotas were not interlocked to this level, the proportion of Muslim respondents who are White is significantly higher than is the case in the actual population and the answers given by these respondents tend to be different to a degree that distorts the findings for the Muslim subsample as a whole. [...] Racism and discrimination lead to a lack of trust The lived experiences of discrimination and racism which participants spoke about in the first half of the sessions, played their part in causing a lack of trust in the healthcare sector. [...] Other issues that cause a lack of trust A couple of participants mentioned that their lack of trust is caused by a belief that issues (of wrongdoing) within the healthcare system are covered up and not addressed sufficiently, and that there are a lot of inconsistencies in the level and type of care that is given. [...] This was a grid asking participants to imagine that they were talking to a healthcare professional (such as a GP, nurse, pharmacist) about a health problem and asked the extent to which they would trust that healthcare professional to do each of the following: ● …take me seriously ● …take my problem seriously ● …believe what I was telling them ● …be aware of issues affecting people from my backgro.
