Media trajectories: a brief introduction to the communication practices

11 Oct 2024

This publication is focused on two grassroots housing organisations in the cities of São Paulo in Brazil and Lagos in Nigeria. It explores how the role of communication has changed for these organisations over the years and how it has been used to improve their capabilities to advance housing justice. It also presents timelines for each organisation, identifying the main events related to the struggles of the housing movements in their respective countries and the changes in the use of communication tools and tactics. It aims to describe the richness of communication practices used and their connections with broader processes, and to illustrate the different functions they have carried out in housing struggles — thus providing insights for other housing movements about the centrality of communication practices in propelling social and political transformation towards more just housing systems.
