SUDAN - IPC ACUTE FOOD INSECURITY ANALYSIS Rapid deterioration due to the ongoing conflict leaves

22 Jul 2024

Unless needs of people are immediately addressed and an escalation of conflict is averted, mobility of goods and people are preserved in and around Zamzam camp and social services are preserved and scaled up, there is a risk of famine for the displaced population in and around the camp, in the first as well as in the second projection periods. [...] To avert this crisis, urgent actions are needed to ensure the preservation and scaling up of social services, enable the mobility of goods and people in and out of Al Fasher and create humanitarian corridors to facilitate the supply of essential resources to the besieged population. [...] Additionally, efforts should be made to prevent the looting of available stocks, facilitate the movement of people to safer areas and address the underlying causes of the conflict to mitigate the risk of famine in both the short and the long term. [...] • Price shocks - The high prices of fuel and agricultural inputs as a result of limited local production, blocked roads, illegal fees, deterioration of the local currency and the limited supply have led to an increase in the prices of food and transportation and an escalation in the prices of goods and services, which poses a great risk of food insecurity. [...] However, due to the timing of the report’s release, only the results for the periods from June to September 2024 and October 2024 to February 2025 (referred to as the projection period) are presented in the main brief, while the April to May 2024 results is included in the annex below.
