Remarks by OPCW Director-General, H.E. Mr Fernando Arias (French, with English translation)

31 Mar 2021

Statement by the OPCW Director-General at the Signing Ceremony for the Second Voluntary Contribution of the French Republic to the Centre for Chemistry and Technology (ChemTech Centre) As delivered on 31 March 2021, The Hague, Netherlands Cher Ambassadeur, Mesdames et Messieurs, Je suis très heureux d’être parmi vous aujourd’hui pour cette cérémonie de signature, en présence de l’Ambassadeur de Fr. [...] This contribution represents a major milestone in the ChemTech Centre Project as it will enable the OPCW to close the remaining funding gap and allow for the construction phase of the ChemTech Centre to start, as planed in this summer. [...] 2 Let me underline that the ChemTech Centre will enhance the implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention and bring a lot of benefits its States Parties and to peace and security in the world. [...] At the same time, the objective is the total destruction of chemical weapons and the absolute elimination of the possibility for the chemical weapons to re-emerge. [...] This very first gesture paved the way for others to follow and allowed the fundraising campaign for the construction of the Centre to start smoothly.
