Anti-corruption measures in the context of oil 6 Earlier studies on Uganda’s oil situation raise concerns about the country’s structural and institutional preparedness to abate the volatilities of the oil industry, and about transparency shortfalls and the potential for damaging corruption in the oil 8 These concerns originate in a political-economic atmosphere characterised by hesitancy of the co. [...] According to the OAG, these costs did not qualify as recoverable because they ‘did not comply with the provisions of the Production Sharing 16 The revelation by the OAG highlights the risk of potential revenue loss, as well as the need for close monitoring of expenditures in the oil industry, as provided for in the PSAs. [...] The most important of these is the establishment of the Petroleum Fund, and associated practices such as the collection of petroleum revenues, deposit of revenues into the fund, withdrawals from the fund, and reporting to parliament. [...] The public scrutiny and subsequent revelations resulted in the sanctioning of the Speaker by the USA and 27 as well as the arrest and arraignment in court of some 28These sanctions were amplified by a civil action by young people, to march to parliament on 23 July 2024, asking for the resignation of the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among. [...] The oversight role of parliament in the context of the oil industry is therefore limited by the power configuration governing the sector.
