In this context, effort refers to the integration and optimisation of new technologies, the training of employees, and the adaptation of workflows and business processes. [...] Our review of the literature indicates similar findings to Tangen (2005), namely that: a) those who use the term 'productivity' rarely provide a definition of it; b) there is a lack of awareness of the different interpretations of the term and the implications of this disparity; c) both conceptual and mathematical definitions and approaches exist. [...] 7 the time that questioned the value of the CIO in the organisations (Ross and Weill, 2002), the reality was that most organisations would have collapsed without their ICT systems and the existing governance around them. [...] 26 Organisational structure and decision-making Reporting structures in which the CIO reports Review and potentially adjust reporting to the CFO and not the CEO indicate that the structures within the organisation to reflect strategic value of the ICT function is not fully the strategic importance of the ICT function. [...] One approach is to have the CIO report directly to the CEO, rather than the CFO, to highlight the strategic and operational significance of ICT.
