Application Guidelines Letter of Intent Clusters of Excellence

The coordination work of the Director of Research is supported by a Board of Directors (BOD), in which each of the collaborating research institutions is represented by at least one person; the lead research institution can appoint, in addition to the Director of Research, other members to the BOD3. [...] The names of the key researchers and the description of their integration into the organisational structure of the COE do not have to be specified until the pre-proposal. [...] The primary criteria for the evaluation of the COE pre- and full proposal are the quality of the research proposal and the research work of the key researchers and the research members of the BOD. [...] This contains the following sections: ▪ Description of the research area ▪ International state of research and previous research achievements of the consortium in this field ▪ Research objectives ▪ Planned research approaches ▪ Added value for the participating institutions and synergies created by the cooperation within the cluster ▪ Literature cited in the LOI The LOI template also asks for info. [...] Allocation The FWF does not evaluate the content of LOIs but merely checks whether they are complete and whether they fulfil the requirements regarding the research qualifications of the members of the BOD and the minimum (three) and maximum number (eight) of all participating research institutions.
