1 Jun 2018

The Georges River and the Liverpool region was a place of interchange between the Darug and the coastal tribes of Tharawal to the east. [...] The construction of the Liverpool Weir in 1836 to supply water to local farmers was one of the many interventions that had consequences for Indigenous use of the river and the region. [...] The Gold Rush era of the 1850s to 1870s, and an influx of migrants crossing to the west of Liverpool brought massive change to the region. [...] The plan is focused on relieving pressure on existing infrastructure and unlocking the economic capacity of the region by funding major transport upgrades (road and rail), creating thousands of local jobs, improving housing affordability and access to services, strengthening the local economy and the liveability of Western Sydney. [...] Culture is a central dimension to the liveability of Liverpool, adding meaning and quality to the lives of the residents, and connecting them to land, people and place.
