Protection of the Arctic Marine Environment Working Group's progress report to SAOs, including list

PAME welcomed the proposal to establish an Arctic Shipping Best Practices Information Forum and is in the process of reviewing draft Terms of Reference (ToR) in this regard with the aim to approve before or at the PAME I- 2017 meeting. [...] PAME decided to suspend its AMSA II(D) Project (exploring the need for internationally designated areas for the purposes of environmental protection high seas areas of the Central Arctic Ocean) pending receipt of information from CAFF and/or the ICES/PAME Working Group on Integrated Ecosystem Assessment for the Central Arctic Ocean on areas that are considered particularly vulnerable to internatio. [...] PAME placed high priority to the Arctic Shipping Traffic Data (ASTD) project and noted the ground- breaking development of a proposed system which will allow for user friendly maritime traffic analysis of Arctic shipping data approved its Phase II (System Design Document), and authorized the ASTD-Expert Group to continue its intercessional work to finalize the projects documents:, the Data Sharing. [...] Preparations for the 2017 Ministerial Meeting: PAME has started developing possible projects for the 2017-2019 work plan and a preliminary list of deliverables for the 2017 Ministerial (provided as a separate document) and has agreed to a timeline to meet the deadline as provided by the Arctic Council chairmanship of 21st of November and up to the PAME I-2017 meeting.
