Ansari, a member of the Centre and past member of the Executive Committee, assumed office of the Vice-President of India on the 11th of August 2007. [...] Departing from the experimental and the folk, the works of three senior and very distinguished artists presented during the year brought to the fore the enduring power and appeal of the formal convention. [...] The concept of the seminar sought to explore the different dimensions of the Indigo plant and the Indigo dye with a view to underlining the importance of indigo in the relations between Asian countries at the level of botany, international trade, politico-economic movements of protests and freedom movements. [...] The exhibition was divided into a number of sections: The botany and phytochemistry of indigo; the processing of the plant to the dye; Indigo in antiquity; trade, plantations and politics; emergence of synthetic indigo; and Indigo and the Arts. [...] In his address he elucidated on the importance of the culture of the north-east as an integral part of the Indian cultural heritage in the past and the present.
