The pipe on each side of the known impairment should be examined to determine the extent of the replacement repair. [...] Some important factors to be considered in these procedures are the use of a low-hydrogen welding process, the welding sequence, the effect of wall thickness and heat input, and the quenching effect of the gas flow. [...] The use of low hydrogen welding procedures, additional support of the pipe because of the additional weight, and welding inspection of the fillet welds should be considered before using this type of repair. [...] One way to do this is by tapping the carrier pipe in order to connect the annular space between the carrier pipe and the sleeve to the pressure inside the carrier pipe. [...] In the case of internal corrosion, the wall build-up is on the exterior of the pipe.
