Emerging Products in Nontraditional Formats: Responding Creatively to Changing Audience Needs

2 Jun 2022

The scholarly communication environment is changing in significant ways that the pandemic has only accelerated. Digitization and easy access to online publishing tools have led authors to explore new ways to present research findings and create educational resources; organizations outside of academia are publishing research in ways outside traditional processes; and faculty have pivoted to video and virtual reality to improve teaching and connect with students. How can publishers respond productively and creatively to meet the needs of their audiences and create sustainable revenue? This session will explore a variety of emerging products that are NOT standard scholarly book and journal products. Hear from speakers with a range of backgrounds explain the ideation process, challenges encountered along the way, and the initial market response. A recording of the Society For Scholarly Publishing's Annual Conference, Session 4E, Chicago, USA.
