The election process to the Executive Committee and the Board of Trustees of the Centre for the two-year period, 2019–21, was initiated by introducing E-voting in the latter half of 2018. [...] Indians and Japanese who had worked together in rescue, evacuation, relief and rehabilitation operations in the aftermath of the Gujarat earthquake in 2001, and in the Tohoku triple disaster of 2011 (Fukushima disaster), shared their experiences of dealing with the mental and physical trauma, problems of rehabilitation and livelihood of the affected communities in the seminar, ‘Coping with Gujarat. [...] The speaker looked into the genesis of the crisis, the dangers it poses to the two countries, the region, the rest of the world, and in particular to India; and the role of the external actors and their goals. [...] How does the closure of the borders affect lives?; and what has been the impact on the people and their local and national economies of the few trade routes that have been opened between Tibet and the Indian and Nepal Himalayas? These were some of the questions addressed. [...] In a series of four lectures, through 35 art objects, he delved into the earliest histories of the region, the cultural identity of its inhabitants, new understanding of the role played by Gandhara in the development of Buddhism, and the later histories of the area.
