The Department is committed to the protection of children and youth from abuse and neglect, and leads the development of policies and programs to improve services in the province. [...] This includes the effective 6 Report on Child Welfare Services to Indigenous Children, Youth and Families 2020-21 collection, publication, and use of data related to Indigenous people in order to identify and remedy gaps in protection for Indigenous children.7 In the context of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Office of the Child and Youth Advocate (OCYA) published a review in 2019 entitled A Long W.
