The complex online ecosystem is characterised by technological innovation and diversification of platforms. This offers advantages to violent extremists. By interrogating the variety of measures and behaviours used by violent extremists, the authors identify gaps in understanding of their behaviours online. These challenges necessitate distinct and more nuanced cross-government policy settings.
