Greenhouse Gas Protocol

part of World Resources Institute

The Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol) was created in 1998 to develop globally recognized standards for measuring and managing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. It is a collaborative initiative between the World Resources Institute and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. The GHG Protocol aims to provide tools and frameworks that organizations worldwide can use to measure, manage, and reduce their GHG emissions, ultimately contributing to global climate change mitigation efforts. The GHG Protocol operates internationally and is widely used by governments, corporations, and non-governmental organizations to set their emissions inventories and reduction targets. Its methodologies are now considered the de facto international standard for carbon accounting.
