Subsequently in late 2014, the Houthis became embroiled in a full-scale civil war with the internationally recognised Yemeni Government.1 In the course of the decade-long civil war, the Houthis gained control of nearly a third of Yemeni territory including its capital Sannaa and the key port city Hodeiah. [...] Through their direct confrontation with Israel in support of Hamas and the US in the Red Sea, the Houthis are seeking to redirect the frustrations of the Yemeni public outwards.8 In a bid to secure greater political legitimacy for themselves both domestically and internationally, the Houthis are attempting to cash in on the reginal sentiments towards the Palestinian cause. [...] This has also resulted in a surge in the recruitment of fighters by the Houthis.9 Externally, through the attacks, the Houthis have successfully managed to attract global attention to the Yemeni Civil War.
