Summary
Although slowly declining, adolescent fertility in Peru remains above the average for upper-middle income countries. Young women in Peru are 7 percentage points more likely than young men to be out of employment, not in education, or in training. Women are 13 percentage points more likely than women to have vulnerable jobs. Only 53 percent of women have access to a financial account compared to 62 percent of men. Peru is close to achieving gender parity in m Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) graduates. More than 1 in 10 women have experienced physical and or sexual intimate partner violence in the last 12 months.
