Suriname - Gender Scorecard (English)
6 March 2023
Summary
Young women in Suriname are 7 percentage points more likely than young men to be out of employment, not in education, or in training. Boys are 25 percentage points less likely than girls to complete lower secondary education. Although slowly declining, adolescent fertility remains above the average for upper-middle income countries. Men are 4 percentage points more likely than women to have vulnerable jobs. Only 33 percent of firms have female participation in ownership. Gender data remain scarce in key areas, hampering policies to narrow gaps between women and men, boys, and girls.
