Four categories of trust This literature review investigates whether and how the arrival of migrants affects levels of trust and perceptions of security among the host population. [...] Both the operationaliza- Political trust Institutions tion of the trust variable and the spatial Government dimension are coded in the database. [...] We draw conclusions from the synthesis of our coding, although readers should be mindful of the heterogenous nature of the literature that varies by type of migration being studied, degree of respondent exposure, form of attitudinal outcome, sensitivity to potential mod- erating factors, and geographical context, as well as sample size and statistical method employed. [...] The general lack of representation of survey-based research in the Global South is imperative to acknowledge, considering the disproportionately high share of migrants in the developing world. [...] The authors of these 18 Moderating factor studies attributed the lack of trust from women to feelings of physical vulnerability, which is less of an issue in the contexts of the three other trust types.
