In a more just and equal world, there would not be any need for a day of collective global activism to forge women’s equality. And yet, more than a century after the first International Women's Day was celebrated in 1911, we live in a world where the need to keep advocating for women’s rights and equality is higher than ever. Those in the business of promoting gender equality have various projections on how many years it will take the world to achieve it. According to a report by UN Women, it will take 285 years to close the gender gap. The World Economic Forum predicts that gender parity is at least 131 years away.
